PROGRAM: “Painting the Marshes” presented by Christine Bodnar, IAPS-EP

May 8, 2023

Join us as Christine shares her work and demonstrates painting the skies over marshes and spring colors in the marshes.

Living on the east coast of Massachusetts, waterways and quickly moving clouds, overhead are great sources of inspiration for my work. Spring is here and the local marshes are starting to show their colors. The combination of blue skies and spring greens are always an invitation to paint.

My Story and Vision

I can always remember having a drawing tool in my hand, my need to see through drawing was important to me. I studied animals and their anatomy from books, trying my best to make them as realistic as possible. This was something I could do alone and gave me great joy. My fascination for color and how it could change the mood and feeling of a moment in time came with my love for painting. Moving to Boston after college in the early 80’s, I continued painting and drawing at Mass College of Art and Design and at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Today I am an art educator and a painter who balances her time between teaching and growing as an artist.

“My paintings are inspired by how light sets the drama of color, shadow, and the rhythm in a composition. I do most of my painting on the southern shores of Massachusetts, where everyday you can find a new challenge with the constant change of chromatic schemesand seasonal personalities. My work is derived from observating my natural surroundings, interpretation is contemporary realism with an expressive style. Whether it is the glorious hues of an evening sky or the interesting play of water reflections, I react and respond with pastel as my voice”.
