First Place Award

 

“Mom’s Stew” won First Place in the 5th National Central Massachusetts Pastel Society, “Marks of Distinction National Show” in Harvard, Mass. 70 individual works chosen by two jurors from 236 pastel paintings submitted from 18 states and Canada. Thank you to jurors of selection and a special thanks to Judge of Awards, Mim Brooks Fawcett, for this honor. exhibit ends 9/30 Painting SOLD

 

 

Individual Artists Grant Award - Orit

Orit Reuben is the recipient of the United Arts of Central Florida Individual Artist Grant 2023. The grant is for the purchase of frames and for the promotion of the pastel medium. Orit will be holding three group/solo pastel exhibitions, including painting demonstrations, to promote pastel artists.

Diana Coidan Award

 

Diana is excited to announce her acceptance into the North Carolina Statewide Pastel Exhibition: On Common Ground From the Mountains to the Sea and is honored to receive an Exceptional Merit Award for her pastel, “Mom’s Stew”.  The exhibition is through July 3rd at The Art Shop in Greensboro, NC.  Diana sends her thanks to Juror/Judge Tony Allain for the recognition!

 

 

Central Mass Pastel Society Pastels Plus

Announcement: Joann Willoughby has been honored to have a piece accepted into this inaugural show. My pastel Among the Wild Dunes was painted partly for the show which only needed to be 50% pastel overall. I started with Art Graf Blocks, with acrylics and watercolors applied then some Golden pumice gel and molding paste then adding pastels. It is a wonderful show and I hope you get to check it out. SPS President and Founder, Connie Reilly Top 100 Finalist in December PleinAir Salon

 

Connie Reilly’s pastel painting “Consider the Lilies” has been selected as a December Top 100 finalist out of 1160 paintings. The December PleinAir Salon was judged by American Master Artist, Kathleen Dunphy.

SPS Member, Anita Law Beaty is Rolling Along with Multiple Accomplishments to Share

Anita Law Beaty has three accomplishments to share. First, she is thrilled to share that her painting, ‘His Crown’ was accepted at the Portrait Society of South Carolina. Secondly, Anita’s painting, ‘Pink Queen’ was awarded First Place at the annual exhibition of the Pastel Society of South Carolina. Finally, her painting, ‘What Is It’ was purchased and being enjoyed in its new home!

                 

 

SPS Member, Christy Bunn had a 2 month solo Art Exhibition at the Thomasville Civic Center

SPS Member, Christy Bunn was honored by her hometown Arts Council with a two month solo show of 28 pieces in the Stafford Gallery at the Civic Center and City Hall. It opened with a lovely reception on Monday, May 30th, where Mayor Sheldon Day welcomed everyone to the show. She debuted several of her new pastel paintings along with many other works.

Anne Spivey's 'The Lovers' has won the "Royal Talens Award' in the Great Lakes Pastel Society Open Online Exhibition

Member of Excellence, Anne Spivey won the ‘Royal Talens Award’ in the Great Lakes Pastel Society Open Online Exhibition. The juror of selection, Kim Lordier narrowed the accepted pieces to 100 from 418 entries. Artists entered from 29 states and also Canada. Rita Kirkman, the awards Judge was impressed by the wide variety of skills, styles and strengths of the entries. Her comments regarding ‘The Lovers’ (14×14) centered around its intrigue, strong mark making, subtle color variations and the story that the painting told.

 

 

Lake Country Juried Art Show Merit Award Earned By Member Ann Dodys

Ann Dodys received a Merit Award at the 6th annual Lake Country Juried Art Show in Eatonton, Ga. for her painting, “Uncle Jimmy and Friends”. The show is at the Artisan Village Guild and will be up until September.

Connie Reilly wins Merit Award at IAPS

Connie Reilly piece, “Golden Child,” has won a Merit Award in the 2022 IAPS International Open Division.

Mozley wins medals in NC

Cathy Mozley recently won the gold and silver medals in the pastel division of the Western Carolina Sr. Arts Competition.  Her painting, “Creeking Up On Autumn,” will now be entered in the state competition in Raleigh in September.

Catherine LaPointe Vollmer wins award at APS National Show

Catherine LaPointe Vollmer’s piece “Second Life” has won a Blick Art Materials Award at the 8th annual Adirondack National Pastel Exhibition. The show may be seen in person at View Center for Arts and Culture in Old Forge NY, or online at the link below.

“Ragdoll in a Cloud of Fluff”

“Ragdoll in a Cloud of Fluff” wins 1st

Kim Wilder Hinson’s pastel painting “Ragdoll in a Cloud of Fluff” won first place in the Art to the Rescue Show in Dunedin, Florida’s Stirling Art Studios and Gallery. This show is held annually as a fundraiser for the Dunedin Doggie Rescue, and is the highest-attended show of the year. All mediums are accepted, and entries must portray an animal.

Donna Catotti’s “High Sierra Winter Blues” was accepted into the PSWC’s 36th Annual Pastels USA Open International Exhibit, “99 Voices in Pastel” showing at the Art Center, Morro Bay, CA, June 30-Aug. 7.

Anne Spivey Received an Honorable Mention in Pastel 100!

Anne Spivey’s painting, ‘Mystical Place’ was awarded an honorable mention and published in the Pastel Journal’s 24th Annual Pastel 100. Juror, Jeanne Rosier Smith, selected her painting as one of 25 winners in the “Landscape and Interiors’ category. Smith looked for ‘subject matter that’s treated with originality, conveys a clear mood or point of view with excellent technique.”

Connie Lynn Reilly, President and Founder of SPS, has been featured in Plein Air Magazine in the category: “Best of Figure and Portrait”.  Painting featured: “Melody” 24 x 30

Marsha Hamby Savage featured in PleinAir Magazine's September 2021 Pastel Special Issue

It was very exciting to receive the September PleinAir Magazine with a special focus on pastels featuring “Pros’ views on using the medium en plein air!”  In addition to the feature articles written by today’s pastel masters; the magazine did a showcase of pastel artists whose works “exemplifies the range and craftsmanship possible with this versatile medium.”   Marsha Hamby Savage’s painting, “Rising to the Sun” 20×16 is included in the PASTEL SPOTLIGHT section of the magazine.
