SPS Member Profile

I began studying art in 1990 at the Maryland Institute College of Art, continuing studies division. I completed 2 1/2 years of drawing, design, color theory, and painting. I studied abroad in their Canada plein air program. I studied painting privately from mid-Atlantic artists David Zuccarini for 2 years; the late Betsy Heuisler for 2 years, and Christopher Lonegan, Professor of Art, Loyola College, Maryland. I have taken classes with Lori Putnam, Dawn Whitelaw, Cathy Odom, Kathryn Stats, Kate Starling, Michele Usibelli, and Colley Whisson. My focus has mainly been on oil painting, however, while attending Ireland's Art in the Open Plein Air Festival, I became friends with pastel artist Karen Margulis. She has been a friend and teacher for the last 8 years, and we travel internationally together. In addition, I have been an online student of pastel artist Jacob Acquire for 2 years. My work has been in exhibited at Baltimore City Hall, the Howard County and Columbia Centers for the Arts. After moving to North Carolina, my work has been in de Provence et d'ailleurs in Blowing Rock, ArtWorks Vass, and Raven Pottery and Craft Gallery. I am a member of the Artists League of the Sandhills and regularly exhibit in their gallery. My pastel painting won first place in the drawing division at the Moore County Arts Council's Annual Art Festival 2024.
