Joe is a self-taught artist from Simpson, PA. He was a teacher for 33 years, and has been producing hand-carved gold leaf signs for over 35 years. Early in his career, he created the comic strip “Onionhead” that appeared in several small newspapers in the 1980’s. After retiring from teaching in 2009, he focused on fine art painting with soft pastels. Joe has exhibited in nine juried International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) shows since 2016, and was awarded the IAPS Master Circle Medallion in 2020. He has shown in multiple juried exhibitions with the Pastel Society of America, and achieved Master Pastelist status in 2022. He received awards for his works in the last three PSA Enduring Brilliance exhibitions. To see his work, visit his website at www.joekluck.com.
Joe’s presentation will provide information on the pastel techniques and methods that he employs:
Application of 23 K gold leaf to the painting surface.
Demonstration using Pan Pastels. He will show how he draws with “Sofft” sponges, and then finishes the painting with various stick form pastels.
Demonstration of blending techniques, using blending tools and Pan Pastels.
Review of his painting process, from the energy of the idea to the completion of the painting.
